A few years ago that wasn’t the case so maybe the rules are tightening a bit more. Just switch to Sports mode and auto start/stop will be off. IF there is a tightening of the US rules, it will be interesting to see if this "disabled in sports mode" will still exist in 2019 (for the US).
The Auto Start/Stop function is default set to "ON" after each engine start using the Start/Stop button. There is no way to set this feature to default to "OFF" at start up. I regret any disappointment this may cause. Driving in Sport Mode, however, will deactivate the Auto Start/Stop function."
Everytime it has stalled has been at low speeds coming up to stop lights or when I'm braking. I get home, pour the Iso Heet in and wait about 20 minutes. I return and start the car to idle, it knocks and hiccups for a minute or two, and then smooths out at about 700 rpms and idles smooth for about 10 minutes.
The most concerning thing would be if you're having frequent start/stop while the engine is not at operating temp. It will definetly cause additional wear on the starter used for turning the crank over, but these starters are reenforced to last longer due to stop/start. This will raise the idle speed slightly - perhaps just enough to stop the engine from stalling. This will not fix the problem - only hide it. I agree that it is most likely the MAF.
There are times when the engine won’t start unless you switch the ignition key on and off a couple of times. It is a sign of a bad starter relay, and it’s caused mainly by corrosion, dirt, debris, or extended exposure to heat. The corrosion and residue will reduce the flow of electrical current within the circuit.
